Requirements for application vary according to programme. You can see the required documents and English skills for all English language programmes below.

Academic requirements:

High school diploma and a certified English translation of your high school diploma if it is not in English.

English skills:

BSc applicants are required to pass IBS’ own ONLINE English Language Placement Test that consists of a 100-minute test and an oral part with a listening task.

If the applicant has a certificate of

• The International English Language Testing System (IELTS, General) with a minimum overall score of 6.0 points 
• The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 72 in the iBT version
• Cambridge Certificate with a minimum score of 169 (B2 First, B2 Business Vantage)
• International GCSE English as a Second Language with a score of C or higher on extended curriculum
• London University GCE O level Syllabus, minimum B in English Language
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 50
• EUROEXAM B2 level certificate
• A B2 level English language certificate
• LCCI certificate with a minimum score of 60
• Duolingo English Test with a minimum score of 95
• Hungarian high-level English language baccalaureate exam with a minimum result of 60%
• Previous studies in English

or if the applicant is 

• Native speaker of English (based on passport citizenship),

the applicant is not required to take the test for admission.

IBS provides compulsory English language education as part of the first year BSc curriculum to all students whose level of English as proven by external or internal test results does not reach a level equivalent to IELTS 6.5.

To determine whether the applicant is entitled to this provision, applicants shall also be required to take a diagnostic language test if they

• have met the admission requirement detailed above, but
• have not proven a level equivalent to IELTS 6.5, including applicants with CEFR B2 level English language certificates (which we consider equivalent to IELTS 6.0).

Academic requirements:

Strategic International Management, Strategic Human Resource Management, IT for Business Data Analytics:

• first- or second-class Bachelor's degree in any field of study.

Strategic Finance, Strategic Marketing:

• relevant first- or second-class Bachelor's degree or a first or second class Bachelor's degree in any field plus documented relevant work experience of at least 1 year

• Bachelor's degree in any field of study,
• transcript with at least one module in mathematics or finance,

• work reference of 3-5 years,

English skills:

MSc applicants are required to pass IBS’ own ONLINE English Language Placement Test that consists of a 100-minute test and an Orientation Interview.

If the applicant has a certificate of

• The International English Language Testing System (IELTS, General) with a minimum overall score of 6.5 points 
• The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 79 in the iBT version
• Cambridge Certificate with a minimum score of 176 (C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency)
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 58
• A C1 level English language certificate
• LCCI certificate with a minimum score of 60
• Duolingo English Test with a minimum score of 105
• EUROEXAM C1 level certificate
• Previous studies in English

or if the applicant is 

• Native speaker of English (based on passport citizenship),

the applicant is not required to take the online written test, only the Orientation Interview.

Academic requirements:

• First or second class, upper division Master's degree. Please email your detailed research plan and one academic referee’s report soon after your online application to info@ibs-b.hu.
• Sufficient English skills and academic knowledge that the IBS Research Officer checks with an Orientation Interview via Skype.

English skills:

The IBS Research Officer checks the applicant's English skills with an Orientation Interview via Skype after the online application.

This is an English course with groups from beginner to advanced level. Non-EU students must have a high school diploma to be able to attend. Students take IBS’s own ONLINE  English Language Placement Test before starting the programme.

Please check on our website if you can be exempt from the IBS online English language testing with your language certificate.

IBS informs you if you must take the IBS online English testing. 

• BSc students: online English language test that you can take any time but just once for 100 minutes (without any help or copy-paste), online listening, and interview for which you book a day in advance.
• MSc students: online English language test that you can take any time but just once for 100 minutes (without any help or copy-paste).
• International University Foundation: online English language test that you can take any time but just once for 100 minutes (without any help or copy-paste).

You receive an email from the online application system (DreamApply) with your username and password to the email you provided in your online IBS application or your application ID (DA1234) (please check your spam and promotion boxes).

You can take the online Written English Test any time but just once for 100 minutes (without any help or copy-paste). 

The online listening starts at 10 a.m. (Hungarian time) sharp, please log in to https://seti.ibs-b.hu/ at 9:45 a.m. (Hungarian Time). Please make sure to check your log in details one day before as you will have to retake the listening if you cannot start it on time. You will get an invitation for the interview by email ONLY if you have completed the listening part.

Online interviews are conducted via Microsoft Teams (no need to download it) in 20-minute slots anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. CET on the same day as the listening. Please note that interview times are not flexible and they are scheduled by the interviewers. Apart from a stable internet connection, you will need a camera and a microphone for the interview. 

If your internet connection breaks down during the listening please write to info@ibsbudapest.com and we will provide you with a new date. 

IBS will inform you about the result of your IBS online English testing (within 2 days) and after that, you can enrol.
