STUDY MODE
Bachelor's programmes
IBS will launch all its BSc programmes with face-to-face classes in Budapest. In addition, a temporary asynchronous online study option is provided for the Buckingham BSc programmes for students whose visas are delayed. It is important to note that only the first semester can be completed in the asynchronous online format.
If you have applied for a Pathway programme and cannot arrive in Budapest by 15 September, you will be advised to switch to a Buckingham BSc programme, from which you can later transfer back to your chosen programme.
Master's programmes
IBS will launch all its Master’s programmes with face-to-face classes in Budapest. An asynchronous online study option is also provided for students who wish to study online or whose visas are delayed. Online study mode is NOT available on the MSc in IT for Business Data Analytics and the MBA in Strategic Data Driven Management programme.
International University Foundation
IBS runs its International University Foundation programme only with face-to-face classes in Budapest.
ENROLMENT INFORMATION
Enrolment is an administrative event, conducted in person or online, where, after checking the original copy of all your key documents, a Contract of Education is signed, whereby you officially become a student of IBS and your first semester is activated.
Please check the enrolment period on our website here.
The normal enrolment period is 10 August – 4 September. Late enrolments will be possible between 7-11 September. Enrolments after this date may only be permitted exceptionally.
A. In-person enrolment: If you are physically present in Budapest, you should enrol on campus. Please come to the Centre for Student Services on the IBS Campus during opening hours (9-12 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on weekdays, except Friday afternoons).
When enrolling in person, please bring all original documents and certificates with you – you will not be able to enrol without presenting them on the spot.
B. Online enrolment: Those non-EU students who do not receive their study visas on time must enrol online. To enrol online, please email info@ibsbudapest.com (provide your full name, programme and 5-digit application ID number) to get the link where you can reserve an appointment for your online enrolment via Microsoft Teams.
Online enrolment is a recorded video chat where you have to present your original documents and sign the contract of education in front of the camera.
Please do not forget to bring with you to the enrolment the original copy of all required documents and certificates, including the ones that you uploaded to your online application profile – you will not be able to enrol without presenting them on the spot.
FACE-TO-FACE /ONLINE CLASSES
The Pathway programmes, the Foundation programme, the MSc in IT for Business Data Analytics and the MBA in Strategic Data Driven Management programmes will start with face-to-face classes only.
Online study mode is only available temporarily on the Buckingham BSc programmes, and optionally on the MSc in Strategic International Management and the MSc in International Management (Vienna) programmes.
If your programme is offered with face-to-face classes but your visa is delayed and you cannot arrive by 18 September, you will be required to study temporarily online up until 16 October. In this case, you will be asked again early October whether you will be physically present on campus by 19 October. This is the only date when you can switch to face-to-face classes if you have started online. If you cannot arrive even by this date, you will have to complete the rest of the semester online.
VISA ISSUES
Currently, EU consulates are overcrowded due to a high demand for studying in the EU.
Because of this, several consulates may not be able to offer you an appointment for a visa interview immediately.
IBS applicants who do not receive their visas on time are allowed to start their studies online from September 2026 (where an online option is available, see above) and complete the entire first semester online if necessary. They can submit their visa application whenever they receive an appointment from the Consulate, and they will be able to travel to Hungary any time after receiving their visa, but switching from online to face-to-face classes is only possible on 19 October.
This allows you to have more options for interview appointments and travel dates. If your visa is rejected for Hungary, you are entitled to a FULL REFUND (with the exception of the application fee of EUR 200) until the end of the semester (31 January 2027).
REFUND POLICY
- Once you have received the admission certificates of IBS for the visa application, you are entitled for a refund only if your visa is refused and you email the visa refusal document to IBS. No other excuse for claiming a refund is accepted.
- In case your visa is granted, we CANNOT refund you the tuition fee and the registration fee in any circumstances.
- If your visa is rejected, the application fee of EUR 200 is non-refundable, and the full tuition fee and the registration fee will be refunded.
- Instead of a refund, you may request deferral to the next intake with the same conditions.
- If you have enrolled but do not receive the visa decision up to 31 January 2027, you can ask IBS to defer you to the next intake.
- If you have arrived in Hungary but regularly fail to show up on your classes, your student status and your residence permit will be suspended. In this case you will be asked to leave the country within 8 days and your tuition fee and registration fee will NOT be refunded.
- If you decide to leave Hungary or to transfer to another institution, the tuition fee and the registration fee will NOT be refunded.
Please note that no refunds are available after the last day of the semester.
Please note that due to strict financial regulations, we can refund the fee only to the same bank account that you transferred it from!
ENTERING HUNGARY
Please buy health insurance in your home country that is valid for 30 days upon entering Hungary.
Your Type D visa is valid for ONE entry to Hungary and you will collect your residence permit card at IBS upon arrival: you will need to be enrolled to your programme at the Centre for Student Services, have your health insurance (that you can buy for cash in HUF at IBS) and accommodation documents.
ROUTE TO IBS
We do not have a pick-up service from the airport, you can use public transport, the Airport Mini-Bus or the official taxi company called Főtaxi to get to the city.

When you arrive in Budapest, it will take some days until you receive your temporary student card certificate at IBS which entitles you to a student pass. So please buy tickets or full-price passes until you receive this certificate. Find ticket options on the website of the Budapest Public Transportation System.
HEALTH INSURANCE
Non-EU citizens can buy their health insurance in the ground floor lobby of the IBS Offices Building from the appointed insurance agent, Mr Tamás Kocsis-Barna. Please contact the Centre for Student Services for the dates.
The health insurance is valid for 12 months and costs HUF 120,000. The insurance fee must be paid in cash in Hungarian Forints, please note that you cannot change money at IBS, the nearest exchange office is in the Auchan shopping mall. To buy the insurance you will need your passport and address in Budapest.
Please find details of the insurance and medical treatment on our website.
EU students should bring their European Health Insurance Card with them.
LIFE IN BUDAPEST
Please check out our website for basic information. The official currency of Hungary is the FORINT. It is better to change your money in the city and not at the airport. There is also an exchange office in the Auchan shopping mall next to the campus.
