What happens outside the lecture rooms often shapes what comes next. From 14 to 16 April, Beyond the Classroom invites students to step into conversations that reflect the pace and complexity of the world beyond campus.
Over three days, the event brings together professionals from business, technology, AI, and the creative industries for a series of interactive talks. Each session opens a different window: from how social media is quietly reshaping identity and relationships, to what it really means to lead when the rules are being rewritten by artificial intelligence.
The programme moves between disciplines, connecting topics that rarely sit side by side in a timetable. Students can explore the role of debate and reasoning in leadership, get a closer look at augmented, virtual, and mixed reality, and see how AI is not only transforming industries but also redefining creativity from filmmaking to advertising and beyond.
Rather than focusing on theory, the sessions are grounded in real experiences. Speakers share how these ideas play out in their day-to-day work, offering a perspective that is often missing from textbooks. It’s an opportunity to hear how decisions are made, how challenges are approached, and how fast-changing tools are being used in practice.
Some sessions may also be integrated into classes, creating a shared space where academic content and real-world thinking meet. But the event is just as much about individual curiosity choosing topics that spark interest, asking questions, and seeing where those questions lead.
Participation is optional, but places are limited. Students are required to register in advance via Moodle and select the sessions they plan to attend. Entry will only be granted to those who have registered.
Beyond the Classroom is not an extra lecture, it’s a chance to step out of routine, explore unfamiliar ideas, and engage with the kind of thinking that doesn’t always fit within course outlines.
