IBS Student Support Manager Kenneth Umeh held a workshop with professors on how to provide help and assistance to our students, respond and act when it is necessary.

The workshop was both instructive and a good opportunity for professors to share our thoughts and concerns about how to support students individually and collectively when faced with difficult circumstances.

In discussing a range of scenarios for professors with similar experiences and those without, a whole variety of problems, including culture shock, academic confidence, young adulthood, personal problems relating to family matters, personal health matters, ill relatives, addictions, conflicts with professors and mental health matters were discussed. With the new Policy and Procedures of Student Support in place to provide guidance to support and protect both professors and students in extreme and difficult circumstances, the workshop was also an opportunity to offer hope by highlighting successful help so far and also for Kenneth to talk about the long term desire for a healthy and happy staff and student IBS body.
