In order to familiarise our 2nd-year Tourism students with different aspects of the Hospitality business, a visit was organised on 18 March to the Hotel Aria near to the Basilica in Budapest.
This is a premium ‘Boutique’ hotel with a strong musical theme throughout the rooms and public areas and provides an interesting comparison with the ‘Majors’ such as Four Seasons and Kempinski where the group will also be undertaking visits in the near future.
In many of the leading hotels in the region, we have IBS Alumni already working in responsible management positions, and Hotel Aria is no exception. Our guide for the visit was Tourism graduate Fanni Feher who shared, not just the operational aspects of her role in this hotel, but also experiences of her placement time at the Kempinski in Budapest and work in HR roles in hotels in Munich and Geneva.
The hotel’s rooms are themed around musical genres from pop to opera and the décor and colour schemes promoted some lively discussion. The high spot was however the Rooftop Bar (see the photo) which is a popular venue for both guests and walk-in visitors.
Inspired by Fanni’s story, together with the vision and the ‘family’ atmosphere evident in a hotel of just over 40 rooms, several students have expressed an interest in spending their placements there. This is of course a key function of the Tourism course, providing practical experience through relevant placement opportunities with the most professional and prestigious operators.
